Chobe National Park
Chobe National Park, is the second largest park in Botswana, covers 10,566 SQkm, has one of the greatest concentrations of game found in Africa. Its uniqueness and the abundance of wildlife offers a safari experience of a lifetime. There is no better way to view game then by taking a small boat down the Chobe river, you can expect to get within meters of Elephant if they are crossing the river. A game drive in the afternoon will get you close to the big cats.
Chobe is divided into 4 distinctly different eco systems: Serondela with its lush plains and dense forests in the Chobe River area in the extreme north-east; the Savuti Marsh in the west about 50km north of Mababe gate; Linyanti Swamps in the north-west and the hot dry hinterland in between.
The Elephant population is the major feature of Chobe, estimated at over 100 000. The Chobe elephant are migratory, making seasonal movements of up to 200 km from the Chobe and Linyanti rivers, where they concentrate in the dry season, to the pans in the southeast of the park, to which they disperse in the rains. Savuti boasts one of the highest concentrations of wildlife, animals are present during all seasons, at certain times of the year their numbers can be staggering. If you stay for 3 days you will probably see nearly all the major species; elephant, zebra, impala, roan, sable, wildebeest, kudu, buffalo, water buck, warthog, eland and predators like lion, hyena, jackal, cheetah and wild dog keeping them company.
