Mowana Safari Lodge

It is easy to see why the Mowana Safari Lodge near the Chobe Game Reserve was named after a baobab tree. This luxury Chobe lodge was built around a majestic 800-year old specimen of Adansonia digitata. Legends about baobabs abound, one being that God uprooted the baobab and flung it to the ground upside down, because it kept walking when He first planted it into Chobe soil.

The Mowana Safari Lodge lies on the banks of the Chobe river, where four African countries (Botswana, Zambia, Namibia and Zimbabwe) meet. At this point the Chobe and Zambezi rivers converge - the Zambezi river being the home of the NyamiNyami (or river god). So if you want to learn more about African myths and legends, the Chobe area around the Mowana Safari Lodge is the place to visit!

The Chobe Game Reserve is famous for its enormous elephant population - it is said that 45 000 of these interesting creatures roam the plains of Chobe. They share the area of almost 10 000 square kilometres with lion, leopard, giraffe, cheetah, buffalo, approximately 450 bird species, as well as puku and Chobe bushbuck, which are indigenous to Chobe National Park.

The luxury Mowana Safari Lodge boasts one of a kind: a hairdressing salon in a treehouse! The swimming pool is also not your regular Olympic-size job. Mowana's pool is built in such a way that it disappears into the surrounding Chobe landscape. Designer jewellery and curios can be bought at Mowana's curio shop. For the sporty types there are tennis courts as well as a 9-hole golf course.

Mowana Safari Lodge offers excellent cuisine with a flavour of exotic Africa at the Serondella Restaurant, while the Savuti Bar quenches your thirst after a safari into the Chobe bush. If you're feeling peckish, the Boma Terrace offers light snacks during the day.

Mowana Safari Lodge will ensure that your time spent in Chobe is worthwhile. Explore the area surrounding this luxury Chobe lodge on foot or on mountain bike. Try your hand at landing a tigerfish while floating on the Chobe river in a makoro or motorboat. For the more adventurous, try river-rafting on the Zambezi river.

Mowana Safari Lodge offers numerous opportunities for expertly guided game viewing in the Chobe National Park, by day or night. Breakfast or sunset cruises on the Chobe river (complete with mouthwatering fare prepared by the gourmets of this luxury Chobe lodge) can be arranged.

The highlight of your visit to Mowana Safari Lodge will definitely be a helicopter trip to the nearby Victoria Falls. Alternatively, you may prefer an evening at the African village close by - try delicous African food around the campfire while tribal dancers take to the floor.
