Deception Valley Lodge is situated about 120 kilometers south of Maun and is next to Central Kalahari Reserve. Guests can incorporate visits to the Okavango Delta, for big game encounters, and to the Victoria Falls from this area.

Accommodation at Deception Valley Lodge is luxurious, and the lodge offers 5 private stilted chalets with double bedrooms, lounges and beautiful Victoria-styled bathrooms with a bathtubs. Guests have private outside showers. The chalets have two single beds, which can be put together to form a double bed. The décor is absolutely stunning, and is furnished in authentic and traditional Africa-Kalahari colors. The room’s décor blends in with the natural arid Kalahari environment, and guests feel part of their surroundings. A private deck allows the guests to view the area in all its glory, and can gaze for hours at the stars lighting up the African night sky. A variety of bird species at a nearby waterhole can also be viewed from this decked area.

Deception Valley Lodge has a dining room, lounge and a bar, which is decorated in vibrant Kalahari colors, and is furnished with Bushmen and African work of art. The complex also hosts a curio shop and a small library. An inviting pool is situated close to the main complex. Dinner can be served by the outside eating area, referred to as a boma, and guests can hear the calls of the wild while enjoying a scrumptious cuisine.

Interaction with the Bushmen, San people, which have inhabited this area for about 30 000 years, is a cultural and uplifting experience. Guests can visit Deception Valley and learn more about the Bushmen’s lifestyle, culture, traditions and their hunting skills. It is an inspiration to see how this tribe has adapted and survived the harsh, unwelcoming, environment for all these years, and still apply the same skills to ensure that their culture is preserved for generations to come.

Activities available at Deception Valley Lodge are plentiful, and guests can go on game drives by day, night drives to see nocturnal species, guided nature walks, and a guided walk with Bushmen that have exceptional knowledge of the area’s bush and wild life. Prior arrangements can be made for a specialized guide walk, which have more detailed information on the survival of man, plants and animals in this semi-desert climate.
