Kubu Lodge

Kubu Lodge is ideally situated on the banks of the Chobe River and is only an hour away from the majestic Victoria Falls. Accommodation on offer at Kudu Lodge includes 11 thatched, raised chalets that have stunning vistas of the river and the unspoiled riverine forest. The authentic rustic exterior of the chalets are carried through to the comfortable interior, with full en-suite facilities, mosquito netting and ceiling fans. All the chalets have tea / coffee making facilities. There are no modern day gadgets like telephones, televisions or radios to distract guests from seeing, hearing and absorbing the spectacular beauty of nature around them.

The Leathaba Restaurant serves a buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner, and is renowned for their excellent quality cuisine that they serve. The bar, centrally situated in the restaurant area, has glorious views of the Chobe River and the surrounding grounds of Kubu Lodge. Guests can relax by the secluded swimming pool, or should they need some quiet time, they can retreat to the reading lounge. A curio shop is on site and guests can buy locally made gifts and souvenirs to remind them of Africa and their wondrous experience at Kubu Lodge.

Activities are abundant for guests to participate in, and includes game drives, boat cruises into the Chobe National Park, or a 2 kilometer walk along the Nature trail. The indigenous riverine vegetation attracts many species of birds for bird lovers to watch, and guests can keep an eagle eye out for a glimpse of the Chobe Bushbuck, native to the area. Trips to the Victoria Falls area, as well as fishing, can be arranged for guests by the friendly and efficient staff at Kubu Lodge. Just a stones throw from the lodge is the Crocodile Farm and guests can take the short walk, accompanied by a guide, and learn more about these amazing and intriguing reptiles. Perhaps Nelson, the oldest crocodile kept in captivity, will take time from his napping to acknowledge their presence.

Private and secluded....with a view of the river.

"We stayed in a triple room for 3 nights at the rate of $300 per night. The location was right on the river, so the setting was quite nice. We saw only wart hogs at dusk, some bird life, and monkeys came by breakfast on 2 mornings to steal food off people's plates. A bit of a nuisance and a show at the same time, as muffins were snatched while heads were turned. Staff used a slingshot to scare them off to varying degrees of success. The grounds were kept, the rooms were clean, the beds comfortable, the staff friendly, the showers warm. There is a nature trail on the grounds that's nice, good for an after-breakfast walk to start the day. The dinners from a fixed menu were tasty and well presented, but the ?20 price for each was on the high side. Unfortunately there are no other choices nearby, and driving at night we're told was not too safe. Kubu Lodge was our most expensive stay in Botswana, Namibia, or South Africa, but I am still inclined to consider staying there again, at least on a short-term stay due to all of the upsides it has.
