Motsentsela Tree Lodge can be located just on the outskirts of Maun, and is a small 200 hectare game farm, with a big welcoming and inviting ambiance. Motsentsela Tree Lodge’s name originates from the local word for the wild bird plum tree.
Accommodation at Motsentsela Tree Lodge consists of:
The accommodation consists of 7 en-suite tents, and nestles under a shaded canopy of indigenous trees. The positioning of the tents under the trees lends a private bush like feel to the accommodation. The tents are exquisitely decorated in soft creams, browns and terracotta, which blend in beautifully with nature. The luxurious tents have twin beds, ceiling fan, and a beautiful claw footed bath. Guests have their own outdoor shower. The lodge has recently added 2, extremely private, honeymoon chalets to the accommodation, which is stylishly decorated, with large (enough space for two) sunken baths. The chalets also have an outside shower. A wooden decked swimming pool invites guests to lay back and relax.
The lounge / dining area with a teak deck is built in the shade of a 1 000 year old Leadwood tree. Breakfast is served, and is hearty and generous. Tea and scones are served in the afternoon in the shade of the bird plum trees.
There are three marked walking trails for guests to explore at their own pace, and is very safe should the guests want to explore on their own. Both the red and green trail passes by waterholes, and visitors can be sure to encounter animals and birds having a drink of water.
There are pre-booked guided bird walks available. Full day trips are available to Nxai Pan which have a diverse array of birds like Ostrich, Martial eagles, the Kalahari Scrub-robin, and the Greater Kestrel, just to name a few. Lake Ngami, depending on the water level, is renowned for the huge concentration of waterfowl in the area. The Okavango Delta is abundant with birdlife and visitors can view the birds from their mokoro or take island walks.
A variety of herons and storks along with other species like Malachite Kingfisher, Long-toed lapwing, bee-eaters, woodpeckers and owls can be spotted. These pre-booked trips have an experienced guide along, and visitors can be sure that apart from enjoying the trips, they will gain much knowledge of the surroundings, environment and the wild and birdlife. Other animals that can be seen around the lodge include zebra, giraffe, gemsbuck, springbuck, eland and impala.
Activities can be pre-arranged and booked for flights over the Okavango Delta, horseback riding, and a morning cultural tour to a local village to learn more about their culture, traditions and lifestyle.
Motsentsela Tree Lodge’s warm and friendly atmosphere, luxurious accommodation, attention to detail, and the first class treatment that are showered upon their guests, are outstanding. Guests returning from day trips and walks are elated to be back in this homely environment where they can kick back and relax. Spending time at Motsentsela Tree Lodge purifies, and uplifts, the mind, soul and spirit of their guests.
